This bibliography brings together more than 100 books spanning six decades, from Helen Oxenbury’s earliest publications in the 1960s to her most recent collaborations.
Helen’s illustration career began creating colourful, pop art-inspired imagery alongside the artists at Jan Pienkowski’s groundbreaking stationery company, Gallery Five. The vibrant, stylised character of this early work caught the attention of publishers at Heinemann when she took them her first book, Numbers of Things. Sebastian Walker later recruited Oxenbury to his newly established publishing company, Walker Books, where she helped redefine board books for babies with illustrations of remarkable realism, tenderness and humour. Since then, she has remained at the forefront of children’s publishing, working with barely a break for more than six decades. Her achievements have been recognised with two Kate Greenaway Medals, among many other honours.
